France self-guided walking tours 2017

Self-guided walking tour along Haut Medoc wine trails. Independent walking holidays to discover numerous chateaux and historic villages such as St Estephe, St Julien, Pauillac, Listrac, Margaux...

The Medoc, or Middle Country, is a stretch of land northwest of Bordeaux, limited on the east by the estuary of the Gironde and on the west by the Atlantic Ocean. It is protected from the Atlantic by a large forest. In the ideal climate of the region, the vines grow in a mix of sand and gravel that eases water drainage. Medoc is made of eight appellations. Two regional appellations are the Medoc and Haut Medoc. The other six are named after villages of the area and are known as being part the greatest red wines of the world : Saint Estèphe, Pauillac, Saint Julien, Listrac, Moulis and Margaux. You will discover grand, well maintained Châteaux, as well as the surrounding vineyards looking out over the Gironde. You will also encounter the marshy and agricultural land of the Medoc, unexpected Ocean outlook and charming, peaceful villages.
