CARCASSONNE, the city with two UNESCO World Heritage sites

Carcassonne boasts 2500 years of history and is privileged to have two UNESCO World Heritage sites: the Canal du Midi, classified in 1996, and the Medieval City in 1997. Situated on the right bank of the Aude, the Medieval City is a fortified city unlike any other in Europe, on account of its size and its state of preservation. Its history is marked by 2000 years of conquest and by the imprint of Catharism and the Crusades. The Canal du Midi is the work of Pierre-Paul Riquet. It was excavated in the XVIIth Century to link the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, the Canal du Midi, formerly used for transporting goods and people, is today frequented by numerous boaters and tourists.

Initially built in 1938 as a cargo tanker, this barge was transformed into a luxurious showroom for the prestigious cosmetic group l’Occitane de Provence in the 80’. The mahogany woodwork and ceramic tiles date from this period and have naturally remained as the signature of this unique canal hotel barge. Savannah was completely refurbished and decorated with luxurious contemporary furniture in 2014. Three large and clear cabins, all air conditioned and centrally heated, with European king size beds (or twin beds if preferred) and en-suite ceramic tiled bathrooms. Cabins have original brass portholes and mahogany skylights. Beds are fitted with luxurious linen, and bathrooms with bathrobes and hairdryers.
